Atlanta/Athens Based Musician Uses Song to Raise Money for Domestic Violence
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 31, 2008 -- Pearson Perry, an Atlanta/Athens based musican, releases song entitled "Yell, Yell, Yell" to raise awareness about domestic violence. She will donate $1 dollar for every play the song receives this week to domestic violence service providers. Perry's aunt, Martha Juliet Washington, was killed by Michael Washington on November 1, 1995 in Kernersville, NC. Michael Washington committed suicide after the murder leaving three children under the age of twelve without a parent.
"For years, I have tried to imagine what it must have been like for her in those months leading up to her death. I have wondered how things could have turned out differently, if she ever thought about having to resort to violence in order to protect herself," says Pearson Perry. "I wanted to write a song that had a different outcome than the one I have sadly come to accept."
Perry worked in rape crisis and understands how crucial funding is for grassroots service providers. "Part of why I left the non-profit world is because I realized that the people who had money were the people controlling what type of service we provided. Sometimes the most important services are the least glamourous on paper - which makes them hard to fund. Once I understood this, it was very obvious to me that I needed to put myself in a situation where I could make enough money to be able to donate it. I am incredibly blessed to be able to do this."
Perry hopes that in addition to raising money for domestic violence service providers this song will raise awareness. "So often we think of domestic violence as something that happens to other people when really, it's your neighbor, your teacher, or your loved one," says Perry. "The only way to stop domestic violence is to educate and communicate. I hope this song can help an organization open a dialogue so we can stop violence against women."

About Pearson Perry:
Pearson Perry grew up in the South, learning that the Bible, sweet tea and charm were the secrets to success and long-term happiness. She writes songs on her little blue guitar about the many people she has known and those she fantasizes about meeting. Some are sweet while others vulgar, but they all share the urge to break free from obligation and expectation. Each one knows that there is something bigger than his/her current state of existence.
